Becoming An Associate Member of CAETS

The CAETS Council authorized establishment of an Associate Member category to broaden international participation by including academies in which the engineering profession is represented within broader scientific/technical population, as well as multi-national/regional academies. Associate Members are not on the Council, but may observe all meetings except Executive Sessions, which are limited to full members. Associate Members are welcome to participate in all CAETS activities, including Working Groups, Committees, and the annual Communication Prize. Dues for Associate Members are set at the lowest tier of CAETS dues.

Associate Membership Criteria:
Membership criteria for Associate Members are aligned with CAETS Membership criteria as defined in its Bylaws:

▪ Include representation of the engineering and technological community of that
country/region.
▪ Subscribe to the nonpolitical, nongovernmental international character of the
Council.
▪ Have a peer elected membership with criteria for election based on significant personal contributions to engineering, technological sciences, or related activities.
▪ Be governed by its elected membership.
▪ Be engaged in significant activities demonstrating that its objectives are compatible with the objectives of CAETS.
▪ Have sufficient support to pay the costs of CAETS membership and the costs of participation in CAETS activities.

Application Process:

  1. An applicant must submit to the CAETS Secretariat (ruth.a.david@outlook.com) a written application addressing each of the membership criteria, providing an evidentiary basis for each. The Secretariat will review the application and seek additional information if deemed necessary.
  2. Within 60 days of receipt of the application, a sub-group of 3-5 CAETS member academy designees will meet (virtually) to discuss the application. The sub-group shall include representation from at least 1 Founding Academy, 1 European Academy, and 1 non-European Academy. If the consensus of the sub-group is favorable, a follow-on discussion (virtual) between the CAETS sub-group and
principals from the applicant will be scheduled. If the consensus is unfavorable, the Secretariat will notify that their application has been declined and provide the
    rationale for that decision.
  3. If, after the discussion between the CAETS representatives and the applicant principals, the consensus of the sub-group is favorable, a report recommending election will be submitted to the Council for a final vote. This may be accomplished via email or during an annual meeting if timely.
  4. If the election is successful, the applicant shall pay $500 into CAETS reserve funds within 90 days. Annual dues, set at the lowest tier of CAETS dues ($1,500 USD), will be payable beginning the year after election.
  5. The Secretariat shall track all applications and report annually to the Board
    regarding their disposition/status.
